Galactic Hub: Deigning a Unified Ecosystem

Galactic Hub: Deigning a Unified Ecosystem

OVERVIEW

Biorelate transforms biomedical data into insights that drive innovation. With tools like Galactic Data, Galactic Web, Galactic Platform, and Galactic API, they needed a centralized platform to unify their offerings. I designed the Galactic Hub to create a seamless user experience while aligning with their mission.

Note: Designs and details have been changed to align with the terms of the NDA.

CONTEXT

A Growing Ecosystem, a Fragmented Experience

Biorelate’s suite of tools had evolved to serve researchers, bioscientists, and executives in the biotech space. From data aggregation to advanced APIs, these tools were powerful individually but disjointed as a whole. Users had to navigate between multiple platforms with inconsistent interfaces and fragmented workflows.

The problem wasn’t just inefficiency - it was the cognitive load. Imagine juggling multiple systems while working on time - critical projects. It was a recipe for frustration.

On top of that, the fast-paced nature of a growing startup like Biorelate meant priorities shifted quickly, timelines were tight, and new tools were always on the horizon. The question wasn’t just how to unify the ecosystem now - it was how to design something flexible enough to handle future growth.

problem statement

How might we create a centralized platform that simplifies data management, enabling users to easily navigate, interact with, and make informed decisions based on real-time, AI-powered insights?

research

Digging Deeper. Research That Mattered

Stakeholder Workshops.

I collaborated with leadership and product teams to identify technical constraints and clarify long-term goals. We needed a design that wasn’t just user-friendly but also scalable.

User Interviews

By speaking directly to researchers, data scientists, and decision-makers, I learned how the fragmented tools slowed their work and what they truly needed—a single, intuitive platform that didn’t add to their workload.

Competitive Analysis

I studied similar platforms across biotech and SaaS industries. This gave me insights into what was working in other ecosystems and highlighted opportunities to innovate.

Key Findings

Centralization: Users wanted one place to access everything they needed, quickly and without frustration.

Customization: Different roles required different workflows. A platform that worked for a researcher might not suit an executive.

Organizing team tasks and collabration
Organizing team tasks and collaboration

To stay organized and collaborate effectively, we used GitLab for task management and version control. We had daily standups to keep everyone on the same page and weekly catch-ups with product managers and engineers to ensure things were moving smoothly. We also kept communication open through Slack and shared docs to keep everything transparent and easy to access.

IDEATION

Refining concepts and prioritizing ideas

During the ideation process, we focused on generating ideas and exploring potential solutions based on the insights gathered. We started by creating user personas to better understand our target audience and their needs. Then, we developed the Customer Journey Maps to visualize the user’s experience, identify pain points, and uncover opportunities for improvement.

We brainstormed multiple design directions, sketching and wireframing concepts to explore different solutions. Collaborating closely with the team, we refined our ideas and mapped out user flows to ensure smooth, intuitive navigation throughout the product. After gathering feedback from stakeholders and team members.

After gathering feedback from stakeholders and team members, we prioritized the best solutions and created low-fidelity prototypes to test and validate our concepts before moving forward.

design system

Scalable Design System with Chakra UI for Galactic Web

We chose Chakra UI to build the design system for Galactic Hub because it provided a solid foundation while allowing for flexibility. The pre-built components ensured design consistency throughout the app, and Chakra UI accelerated development, enabling us to concentrate on more complex features.
